How to safely disconnect the charging cable from a vehicle's charge port, and troubleshooting tips for release issues.
Understanding the Role of Your Vehicle, Not the Charger:
The Hypervolt Home device doesn’t lock the charging cable to your vehicle; it’s your car that controls when to release the charging port pin, to allow the release of the cable once charging is complete.
Troubleshooting Steps:
- Confirm Charging Has Stopped: Before removing the cable, make sure the charging session has ended. Each car has a different method for this, so it’s best to consult your vehicle’s user manual to learn how to do this for your specific make and model.
- End the Charging Session : Hit the Stop Charging button on the Hypervolt app or the equivalent counterpart on the vehicle app/dashboard and wait until it signals that it’s safe to remove the connector.
- Locate the Release Controls: The location of the release controls to unlock the charge port is typically and conveniently located on the center console, near the driver’s door, or on your key fob. Your manual will have specific details. Your manual will have specific details.
- Manual Release: If the cable still won’t release, most vehicles have an emergency release lever. This varies by vehicle. It could be near the charging port, the boot, under the bonnet, in the center console, or near the vehicle’s doors. Your vehicle’s manual will guide you on how to find and use this.
- Consult the vehicle manufacturer: If you’re still stuck, don’t hesitate to contact your manufacturer or roadside assistance for help on how to manually release the connector.
